Schenley Park Improvement Projects

For over two decades, the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy has partnered with the community and the City of Pittsburgh to restore, steward, and activate Schenley Park. From revitalizing trails and iconic green spaces to launching new park programs, we’re working to ensure this beloved oasis continues to thrive for generations.

Flagstaff Hill

The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy is restoring Schenley Park’s historic entrances and pathways in the Flagstaff Hill area, enhancing accessibility, sustainability, and visitor experience.

Visitor Center

Recently upgraded following its restoration 20 years ago, the Schenley Park Visitor Center offers a café, rental space, trail maps, and accessible restrooms—creating a welcoming hub for all park visitors.

Schenley Plaza

Operated by the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy and once an asphalt lot, this vibrant greenspace now welcomes hundreds of thousands annually, offering gathering spots, entertainment, and a grand entrance to Schenley Park.

Westinghouse Memorial and Pond

The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy restored the Westinghouse Memorial and Lily Pond to its historic beauty, with rebuilt pathways, garden plantings, and stormwater protection.

Mary Schenley Fountain

The fountain was restored to repair damage and reveal its beauty as a stunning piece of public art. Subtle landscape improvements, including expanded green space, better stormwater absorption, and ADA-compliant paths, enhance accessibility and highlight the fountain’s grandeur.

Phipps Run

At Phipps Run in Schenley Park, a once muddy corridor was transformed in 2004 into a vibrant new stream bed and trail. This restoration marked a crucial first step in revitalizing the ecological health of the entire area.

Pittsburgh’s Parks: For Everyone, Forever

Parks bring us together. They are where families make memories, neighbors connect, and people of all backgrounds and abilities can find joy in nature. No matter who you are, parks are for you. And in return, they give us so much—fresh air to breathe, green spaces to explore, and a sense of home in the heart of our city.

At the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, we believe parks are essential. We’re committed to caring for them today and for generations to come.

Join us in keeping Pittsburgh’s parks thriving.
