Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy Unveils First-Ever Glow in the Park Event in Schenley Plaza

The nonprofit will illuminate the night while benefiting the city’s cherished public parks.

PITTSBURGH – JULY 10, 2024 – The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy today announced that tickets for its first-ever Glow in the Park event are now on sale. Glow in the Park, presented by Peoples Natural Gas, an Essential Utilities Company, promises a captivating evening under the stars, celebrating and supporting Pittsburgh's beloved parks. The magical night, exclusively for guests aged 21 and over, will unfold on September 19, 2024, at Schenley Plaza.

Glow in the Park presents a unique opportunity for the community to unite and delight in the splendor of Schenley Plaza as it's transformed into a radiant celebration. General admission tickets are $125, with a special discounted rate of $99 for students, non-profits, and public-sector employees. The event is co-chaired by Ali Gumberg and Olivia Cochran, whose vision and passion have shaped this extraordinary evening.

"We are honored to co-chair the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy's inaugural Glow in the Park event," said Ali Gumberg and Olivia Cochran. "This event shines a light on the Conservancy’s mission to restore and maintain our city’s beloved green spaces while inspiring the next generation of park supporters. By coming together as a community, we hope to highlight the importance of preserving our parks for everyone now and in the future."

The Parks Conservancy will treat guests to a variety of glowing entertainment, including groovy beats from DJ Digital Dave, illuminated cocktails and mocktails, and delectable gourmet bites from The Porch.

"We are overjoyed to introduce Glow in the Park, an event designed to illuminate the importance of our green spaces and bring Pittsburghers together in celebration of our parks," said Sophie Gage, Philanthropy Manager of Donor Events and Engagement at the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy. "We are deeply grateful to our incredible sponsors for their support and our co-chairs, Ali Gumberg and Olivia Cochran, for their unwavering commitment to creating a truly magical experience in the heart of Schenley Plaza – a premiere project of the Parks Conservancy."

Schenley Plaza, once a gravel parking lot, was transformed into a vibrant green oasis by the Parks Conservancy in 2005. This remarkable transformation turned a desolate parking lot into a lush public space that now features beautiful landscaping, seating areas, and the iconic PNC Carousel.

Julia Homa, Community Affairs & Corporate Giving Specialist for Peoples, added, “Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy’s mission supports the communities where we work, play, exercise, and relax with our families. We are thrilled to be the presenting sponsor of the inaugural Glow in the Park, which provides a fun and creative way to support these vital community assets.”

All proceeds from Glow in the Park will directly benefit the nonprofit, playing a crucial role in fueling its mission to restore and maintain the city's treasured parks. Funds will support essential initiatives, including ecological restoration, environmental education programs, and community outreach efforts. These initiatives are vital in ensuring Pittsburgh's parks remain vibrant, healthy, and accessible for all residents and visitors.
