Negley Run Watershed Projects & Planning

About Negley Run Task Force

Negley Run is one of Pittsburgh’s most critical urban watersheds. It spans 3,300 acres of densely developed neighborhoods with only 10% green space. Washington and Negley Run Boulevards serve as primary stormwater corridors, collecting more runoff than any other sewershed in the city. In a typical year, the A-42 outfall experiences 66 overflow events, discharging 777 million gallons of combined sewer overflow (CSO).

The Negley Run Watershed Task Force is a cross-sector collaboration engaging community members, creatives, scientists, and policy professionals in urban ecosystem restoration. Working closely with the City of Pittsburgh and regional agencies, the Task Force promotes innovative rainwater management, biodiversity, and ecological regeneration.

Its systems-based approach integrates habitat, function, and stormwater solutions into public, private, and municipal development strategies—bringing a holistic vision to CSO and flood control challenges.

In close partnership with community leaders, the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy stewarded the Task Force from 2018-2024, transitioning leadership to Upstream Pgh in 2025. For updates about the task force, visit upstreampgh.org/negley-run-task-force.
