Have you ever considered your neighborhood a part of nature?

When you think of "nature", is your first thought our city's major parks? More and more, families around the city are discovering that nature starts as soon as you step out of your front door. Sit outside for just a few minutes and you'll notice trees swaying in the wind, squirrels running along power lines, and songbirds singing.

Parents, grandparents, caregivers, and kids are becoming naturalists in their neighborhoods by getting to know the birds that call their communities home. Budding birders of all ages are venturing out to find the nature that surrounds them.

Taking part is easy! We've collaborated with Buzzword Pittsburgh to create a binocular lending library at YWCA Greater Pittsburgh Homewood-Brushton Center. Drop by the Center during regular business hours to pick up a pair of binoculars that you and your little learners can use for free.

Looking for places to spot birds and other wildlife? We've teamed up with ornithologists from the Carnegie Museum of Natural History to create a map of interesting Homewood birdwatching spots:

Whatever your neighborhood, we invite you to explore nature by joining us for these Buzzword Pittsburgh events, and stay tuned for upcoming bird walks with our friends Allegheny Bird Conservation Alliance!
