Let’s Talk About Parks: Spring Beauties

Take a hike or bike ride through one of our city parks this time of year, and you’ll see a host of colorful signs of spring. Bright green buds on branches, sprouts of wild grasses poking through the dirt, and the earliest flowers of the season are all visible now in Frick, Highland, Riverview, and Schenely Parks. The flowers you notice first may be bright golden daffodils, or white and lavender trillium. The white buds of the bloodroot plant (Sanguinaria canadensis), the vibrant yellow trout lily (Erythronium americanum), or the blooms of the twinleaf (Jeffersonia diphylla) may grab your attention.
