The “Let’s Talk About Parks” series is designed to encourage exploration and discovery of Pittsburgh’s urban parks.

With most trees now barren of leaves, winter is the time when evergreen trees come into their own as the botanical celebrities of the woodlands. Tall and proud in stature, their rich color is unaffected by freezing temperatures, and when it snows their draping green branches look even more beautiful when caped with white.

Evergreen trees are easy to spot, and you may even have one in your home during the holidays, but can you tell the differences between firs, pines and the official state tree of Pennsylvania, the eastern hemlock? Read full article
