ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy (PPC) is leading an inclusive public design process for the football field and wellness-focused amenities at Fowler Park, guided by the community-driven Fowler Park Master Plan released by the City in 2023. This initiative aims to engage Northside residents from Perry Hilltop, including coaches, referees, youth players, parents, neighborhood organizations, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
The proposed public engagement process will align with ongoing efforts to revitalize Perry Hilltop, such as the federal CHOICE Neighborhoods plan. It will also explore ways to expand access to athletic programs for youth and enhance the overall quality of life for residents.
The project focuses on upgrading the football field, a vital resource for programs like the Northside Steelers and Urban Impact, as well as other youth organizations. In addition to field improvements, the plan includes adding wellness features such as a playground, basketball court, walking path, and gathering spaces. These enhancements will create a safe, welcoming space for young athletes, their families, and the broader community to participate in year-round, health-focused activities, transforming the park into a vibrant hub for recreation, play, and connection.
