From Ashes to Access

In 2016, the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, in partnership with the City of Pittsburgh, reimagined and reopened the Frick Environmental Center (FEC) after a devastating fire destroyed the original building. The result is one of the greenest buildings in the world—a LEED Platinum and Living Building–certified facility that sets a national benchmark for sustainable design and environmental leadership.
Today, the FEC serves as a vibrant hub for environmental education and a welcoming gateway to Frick Park. It also stands as a powerful symbol of accessibility and inclusion, reflecting our commitment to ensuring everyone can experience the outdoors—through initiatives like the Track Chair program and the Sensory Nature Trail.
