Floating Floral Art: A Creative Mindfulness Practice
Leader: Carrie McMann

In this workshop, participants will be guided through a creative mindfulness practice that supports slowing down, connecting with nature, and practicing being in the moment- without forcing it. Inspired by the Buddhist practice of creating mandalas, we will use flowers and other objects found in nature to create our own temporary art as a form of meditation and expression with nature. Participants will have space to reflect on and share how this process relates to their everyday lives and self-care practices, and what lessons and tools they’d like to take with them. All are welcome and there is no meditation or creative experience necessary to join this workshop.

Washgourd

Leader: Petra Floyd

Washgourd is a lesson about gourds & family. Through an experimental soundscape and personal storytelling, Petra teaches the audience about the process of hardshell gourd cultivation & crafting. Audience members may leave inspired and gourd-curious.

Medicinal Teas

Leader: Melissa Sokulski, L.Ac.

Many common plants which we see everyday have medicinal properties, and have been used by many cultures for healing. Join Melissa as we walk around Frick Environmental Center, learning about wild medicinal plants, sustainable and responsible foraging, and making medicinal tea. We will make and sample teas from common autumn plants and discuss their healing properties.

Melissa Sokulski is an acupuncturist, herbalist, and teaches about wild plants and foraging in Western Pennsylvania.

This day is presented in partnership with Awaken Pittsburgh
