Ever notice the light green, yellow, and gray patches of stuff growing on old stonework or trees? These are lichens! Pennsylvania is home to hundreds of species of these incredible symbiotic organisms. Join Naturalist Educator Stephen Bucklin at the Frick Environmental Center for an afternoon of learning about these often overlooked and valuable parts of our ecosystem. We’ll start off indoors with an introductory presentation and then head into the park to observe lichens in their habitat. Hand lenses/magnifying glasses are recommended for appreciating the tiny details of lichens and will be available for borrowing.
