Collective Legacy II: Celebrating 50 Years of Black Arts in Western Pennsylvania

In partnership with the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, BOOM Concepts proudly presents Collective Legacy II at the Frick Environmental Center—an extraordinary exhibition commemorating BOOM Concepts' 10th anniversary. This landmark showcase offers an expansive, intergenerational exploration of more than 50 years of Black arts in Western Pennsylvania.

A Multi-Venue Experience

As part of Black History Month, BOOM Concepts will host an engaging artist talk at the Frick Environmental Center featuring select creators from Collective Legacy II on Saturday, February 15. Attendees will gain insight into the artists' journeys and creative processes. Notable speakers include Alecia Dawn Young and Christiane Leach.

The following venues are currently showcasing the exhibit:

  • Frick Environmental Center: This LEED Platinum-certified building hosts a centerpiece work by Carl "Dingbat" Smith, exploring themes of recycling, reuse, and resilience. Visitors can also experience the From Slavery to Freedom Garden, which honors the endurance and contributions of Black communities.
  • Pittsburgh International Airport
  • Emerald City

WE ARE ALL IN. ARE YOU?

Pittsburghers need parks. They're where families create lasting memories together, where people of all ages connect to nature, and where all of us can simply enjoy a breath of fresh air. Parks, in return, do more than we realize. They clean the air, filter stormwater, lower stress, and provide a natural sanctuary.

We believe in the power of parks. We are all in. Are you?
