A Year of Renewal, Rhythm, and Reconnection at Riverview Park

Riverview Park Year in Review | 2025

Perched high above the city, Riverview Park has long been a place to pause, reflect, and reconnect with nature and in 2025, it was also a place of incredible momentum. From major infrastructure improvements to beloved community traditions, this past year was all about investing in the park’s future while celebrating the people who bring it to life.

Here’s a look back at the highlights that made 2025 such a meaningful year in Riverview Park.

Reconnecting the Park: Davis Avenue Bridge Opens

The completion of the Davis Avenue Bridge, marks a major milestone in a long-term priority of Friends of Riverview Park. Nearly twenty years after the original bridge was removed, its replacement reflects more than a decade of sustained advocacy and planning as part of our broader strategy to reconnect Riverview Park with surrounding neighborhoods.

The new bridge restores a vital connection between Riverview Park and Brighton Heights – the largest neighborhood on the Northside - improving access, enhances safety, and helps residents and visitors to explore the park.

Its return marks an important step toward ensuring Riverview Park remains welcoming and connected for walkers, families, and neighbors alike.

Restoring a Historic Haven: Valley Refuge Shelter Construction

Another of the year's significant milestones was the renovation of the Valley Refuge Shelter, completed in partnership by the City of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy. Nestled within the park’s wooded landscape, this historic shelter has long served as a quiet retreat for parkgoers.

In 2025, the structure was thoughtfully restored and improved, ensuring it remains a safe, welcoming, and accessible gathering place for generations to come. This project represents more than bricks and mortar; it’s a commitment to preserving Riverview Park’s character while adapting it to the community's needs.
