Home Runs for Trees

The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy is partnering with the Pittsburgh Pirates to hit a home run for the parks.
During the 2009 season, for every home run hit by the Buccos at PNC Park this season, the Pirates donated a native tree for planting in one of the four major parks--Frick, Highland, Riverview and Schenley. Several of these trees are already in the ground, including a hop hornbeam planted by Pirates President Frank Coonelly and the Pirate Parrot this June behind Riverview Park's Allegheny Observatory.
Now that the Pirates have concluded their season at home, the grand total is 75 trees! Thanks to the Pirates players and staff for helping to make a wonderful contribution to our parks' future.
