Reservoir Walkway

The promenade around the historic Reservoir No. 1 is a 3/4-mile walkway that provides a cool hilltop oasis to runners, walkers and those looking for an escape from the city. In 1998, park enthusiasts successfully campaigned against an effort to seal the reservoir with a plastic cover to comply with environmental regulations on drinking water. The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority instead agreed to build a multi-million-dollar microfiltration plant, allowing the reservoir to remain as an open water amenity.

Swimming Pool and Volleyball Courts

Highland Park's swimming pool along Lake Drive is the city's only long-course pool and occupies an impressive 13,600 square feet. For toddlers there is a 3,000-square foot wading pool. Older kids can hit the "beach" at the nearby sand volleyball courts. Call the City of Pittsburgh's aquatic information line at 412- 594-4645. During the summer, contact the pool at 412-665-3637.
